I wrote this like 6 hours ago, then when I went to post I couldn't access the forums again. I then fell asleep watching the news--I'm exhausted and worn out from watching this all day.

What a fucking day.

All I can think of is the Romans...Adrianople.

I was at work in VA Beach...customers and employees walking up every few minutes with more news. We left at 2, our CEO was to visit tomorrow--cancelled.

This is scary. This is like the beginning of the end for us.

WE CANNOT POSSIBLY BEGAN TO PROCESS THIS. It will take a long time, perhaps to long for us to be able to truly know how we will be effected.

The Romans did not know the significance of Adrianople. They didn't understand that the tributes they began to pay were bad, and letting the Germans onto thier soil so fast, without Romanizing them would undermine their society.

These terrorists are the new barbarians. I draw this allusion becuase like the Romans, we have no way of fighing back. Everyone wants to strike back at the evil, but who? How? We have no way to fight off these attacks, much as the Roman's slow moving, stationed army was inadequate and at a loss as how to fight back the swift barbarian raids, the terrorist attacks of their time.

I can think of the horror and tragedy now. I can see the World Trade Center--gone forever, the Pentagon viiolated, hundreds dead, many still dying under the rubble. I cannot forget the image of the 2nd plane hitting taken from the ground, or the report of jumpers from the World Trade Center, including a man and woman holding hands. Imagine that was you, maybe with your husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, or just a fellow office worker you were going to die with.

But I can also think of the future, and the long term consequences. They can't keep the markets closed forever--stocks may crash. More attacks can come. We may have to live at the mercy of the terrorists and in daily fear like people in England and Isreal.




I woke up at 3:30 in the morning. The events of yesterday were all so fantastic, and surreal, I was hoping they were a dream. Sadly, they were not.

Agreed. As I just said to The Evil Oppressive Destroyer of Forums on ICQ, I am fucking angry. I am not remotely nationalist or right-wing and I'm hardly the greatest fan of the US government or it's foreign policies, but when all is said and done you guys are still my brothers and vice versa.

Can you imagine a film with a similar plot being made prior to this atrocity?! No. It would be completely ludicrous to suggest that four airliners could be succesfully hijacked within half an hour, then three of those planes succesfully smashing into their respective targets.

I am not an American, but I am shaken still. I will feel even worse when my mind can grasp the full horror of this day.

I was napping outside of work, waiting for my day to begin, when I get woken up by my girlfriend, telling me something's happened at the WTC. I didn't want to believe it, seemed like a bad dream at the time.

I got out of my car and started walking into our office building. The ground floor is mostly taken up by Boeing and a large number of their flight instructors with 2 huge simulators, and engineer types. There was a group of them milling about outside, obviously distressed and crying about something major.

It didn't sink in until I stepped into our corporate offices on the 3rd floor, and everyone was in a daze, listening to the radio, or watching the makeshift TV stand by the Inside Sales area. Everyone was just numb from shock. People started going home early, and the volume of incoming calls was off by 75% or more. It was like a ghost town by 2 pm PST. I'm still in shock now. What kind of maniacs would do something so terrible, because they don't like our way of life or who we associate with? I am not a bloodthirsty person, but just this once, I howl in rage and pray that eventually, the perpetrators are either bombed into the Middle Ages, get thrown off the Sears Tower back first, or executed live on television. Even if that happened, it would not be enough to heal the scars this even has caused. Bastards.

I hope they rebuild the World Trade Center.

To those familiar with Something Awful: The SA Forums have utterly, utterly collapsed.

It was my only source of news. I'm on a 56k connection, I couldn't muscle myway onto CNN.com or BBC.co.uk. A NYC Forum Goon with a webcam wasbroadcasting images of the burning World Trade Center. The thread reached over 15 pages in under half an hour before it came crashing down on the rest of SA.

I went in to work today, and came home fifteen minutes later. The Loop area, the center of Chicago, has shut down. The colleges, museums, stock exchange, government buildings and businesses are closed. Games have been cancelled. Public transit passes are free. The trains are packed.

Everyone is going home. I came home half an hour ago.

I'm a soft touch. I kept it together long enough to make it to the CTA station, but I cried on the platform. I blame some fuchsia-haired kid freaking out into his cell phone. "IT'S WAR FOR SURE! IT'S WAR FOR SURE!" Couldn't maintain composure, sitting next to that. When I started up, everyone thought I was a 17-year-old late for school (I look young for my age) or I knew someone in New York. A sympathetic lady gave me Kleenex. And then, out of nowhere, a stranger appeared, snapped my photograph with an expensive-looking camera, and disappeared again.

If a photo of a blonde, pregnant woman in a blue cotton shirt handing a small, brown girl in an olive-drab jacket a tissue shows up on the wire services on in the papers, let me know.

New York doesn't look like New York anymore. The skyline is gone. The WTC is dead. This is like the plot to a movie I would refuse to see, on account of a ridiculous premise. This our Pearl Harbor. Our generation has been defined by this, and onyl then. In a hundred years, this is all they will remember of us.

The Legendary Assholes of the Internet, from Kyanka to Stile to Chez Noir of PoE, have suddenly decided that now is not the time to be an asshole. They're asking for blood donations. They're pulling their pages offline as a sign of respect. It's surreal. These are good, decent people who can feel sympathy for the pain fo others; I've always subconciously known that. But the sudden breaks in character are as disarming as they are touching.

Soylent from Rotten.Com has posted a series called "Swan Dive." These are people jumping from the burning World Trade Center, floor 60 and above. I have seen Stile's kitten video. I have seen videos of castrations. I have seen "Train Girl." And these three blurry, still photographs are the most horrible things I've ever witnessed. Soylent also claims that the forth airliner, which crashed in rural Pennsylvania, was shot down by a military jet. That, so far, is unconfirmed by the BBC.

That's it. I don't know what else to say. I'm sorry this happened. I'm sorry for everything. No one deserves this. And no one deserves what's to inevitably come.

Well im in australia, and according to the news on channel 7 early this morning, our Prime minister has stated that we will assist america in any way possible. Our prime minister (John Howard) was in washington at the time of the occurance as well and you guys probably saw him on TV cause alot of the american reporters and stuff were attending a conferance with him.

So you can add us to the list of people who are going to end up on your side if anything happens i guess. Dunno what our relatively small military can do though.

I approve of Trillians and Hyrda's level headed thoughts. But I would also note that an Islamic fatwah can not be reversed. It goes beyond mere propoganda or jingoism. The young men in terrorist orginizations have been raised from birth to believe that destroying the great satan is a moral imperative. When Chinese and Russian leaders told their people "the US is no longer the enemy", the people were skeptical and bitter, but they stood down and let the healing began. When Afghani Muslim moderates told the Taliban that the US is no longer the enemy, the Taliban killed them for being(in their eyes) blasphemous and hypocritical cowards.

I have been trying to sleep on and off all day

I have slept four hours in the last forty-eight. (Your never really awake and your never really asleep with insomnia)


This is fucking terrible. I dont know anyone in new york, I have never been to new york, shit I might even have a hard time finding new york on a map. I realized that i had went to sleep about forty-five minutes before the attack (5:00 pst) and woke up at seven. My roommate told me that a plane had struck the World Trade Center, and that it was on fire. I figured that some air traffic controller had fell asleep at the console, and passed out for a half-hour. Then I get online and see twenty fucking "cnn breaking news" emails in my box, and I figured out what went on. It seemed so surreal. So fucking surreal. I almost cried when I saw the pictures of the people jumping off the buildings. Jesus Christ, that could have been San francisco, or Los Angeles, or St. louis, anywhere. Innocent people where hijacked and fucking drove into some fucking buildings. They where probably just settling in, thinking about whether they should pay the three bucks to get the headphones for the in-flight movie or if they want a goddamn complimentary drink. Then some motherfuckers who think that somehow, someway, killing a shitload of people and doing hundreds of billions of dollars worth of damages will in any way make their country's lives better take over the goddamn plane. Probably spouting all their bullshit about the "terrible american zionists" and the "oppression suffered at your dirty capitalist hands" all the way until they parked the plane on some innocent typist's desk at 500mph. Jesus Christ, whomever was sitting there at ground zero was probably happy until the last fifteen seconds of their lives, thinking how great it was to have a window seat at the World Trade Center and how their career was really moving along. Then a low pitch starts in their ears, slowly getting louder..then shit on their desk starts to rattle then BAM! they are fucking roadkill by some goddamn terrorists who are jealous of the economic conditions of the US and instead of fucking DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT, they whine about being oppressed and blow shit up. God, what a bunch of fucking children.




I really dont know what to say, but I do give my deepest condolonces and prayers to the family, loved ones, friends and bystanders to this atrocity. Turning Afghanistan or whomever into a parking lot wont ease your suffering or worries.
